A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE GOVERNOR TO DECLARE APRIL 30, 2016 "DIA DE LOS NINOS".

 

     WHEREAS, many countries around the world, especially in the western hemisphere, dedicate a special day to children; and

     WHEREAS, el dia de los ninos, or children's day, was established to encourage all countries to institute a day to promote a mutual exchange and understanding among children and to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world's children; and

     WHEREAS, children represent the hopes and dreams of the residents of New Mexico and should be invested in and nurtured to preserve and enhance democracy, the American spirit and economic prosperity; and

     WHEREAS, el dia de los ninos is a cherished tradition in Latin America, where children are the center of the Latino family; and

     WHEREAS, all children deserve quality health care, the best educational opportunities possible and a safer environment in which to grow; and

     WHEREAS, the celebration of children in New Mexico would provide an opportunity for children to express their dreams and aspirations and find comfort and security in the support of their family members and communities; and

     WHEREAS, in supporting their children, parents are asked to encourage their children to go to college and to contribute to the nation and to their communities; and

     WHEREAS, the national Latino children's institute, serving as a voice for children, has worked with cities throughout the United States to designate a day to celebrate young Americans and bring together Hispanics and other communities in the United States to celebrate and uplift children;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the governor be requested to declare April 30, 2016 "Dia de Los Ninos" in New Mexico to celebrate New Mexico's children and to help them develop confidence to become great leaders and great members of society; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor and the chair of the national Latino children's institute.
