A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING CARLOS MEDINA AND HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

 

     WHEREAS, Carlos Medina was born June 30, 1974 in Las Vegas, New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, Carlos is the son of Ben and Rita Medina, who were from Ribera, New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, Carlos attended west Las Vegas high school and later attended New Mexico highlands university; and

     WHEREAS, Carlos started playing music when he was only seven years old and is an accomplished accordion and saxophone player; and

     WHEREAS, during his professional career, Carlos has played with such great artists as Alberto Nelson "Al Hurricane" Sanchez and Darren Cordova; and

     WHEREAS, Carlos also embarked on a solo career in 1998 and started his own group, "Los Trio Gallos"; and

     WHEREAS, for many years Carlos worked at his own construction company and still played music at night and at any other opportunity he had; and

     WHEREAS, Carlos was awarded the New Mexico Hispano music songwriter of the year award in 1995 and 2014; and

     WHEREAS, in 2012, Carlos created his alter ego, "Graviel de la Plaga", who portrays a comical view of life in New Mexico, and this alter ego elicits feelings of familiarity among people as someone they know; and

     WHEREAS, since Carlos started this alter ego role, he has received more than twenty thousand followers on facebook who look for his daily "norte saying of the day" or his daily recognition of companies or individuals; and

     WHEREAS, Carlos has been approached to do a comic television pilot and possible television show, based on his alter ego; and

     WHEREAS, Carlos is supportive of the possible shows as long as they are filmed locally in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, Carlos is also involved in the Santa Fe tonight show; and

     WHEREAS, between his daily roles on facebook, his music and his comedy, Carlos has closed his business and is now concentrating solely on his career as a musician and an entertainer; and

     WHEREAS, Carlos is a multitalented individual and a rising star of New Mexico;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Carlos Medina be recognized for his native talents and his mentorship of young adults; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Carlos Medina.
