A MEMORIAL
HONORING THE LATE ADOLPH C. PLUMMER.
WHEREAS, Adolph C. Plummer, a legendary university of New Mexico track star, died on November 30, 2015 in Denver, Colorado; and
WHEREAS, Adolph was born January 3, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Adolph enlisted in the United States air force at age seventeen and, while enlisted, joined the track and field team and traveled the world; and
WHEREAS, upon completion of his military service, Adolph accepted a track scholarship from the university of New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, in 1961, Adolph became the national collegiate athletic association champion in the four-hundred-forty-yard dash; and
WHEREAS, Adolph, as a university of New Mexico senior, set a world record in the four-hundred-forty-yard dash of forty-four and nine-tenths seconds at the 1963 western athletic conference championship; and
WHEREAS, a devoted educator, Adolph worked in the Denver public schools for over thirty years, serving as a student adviser, track and football coach and assistant principal; and
WHEREAS, Adolph also served as an associate dean of the university of New Mexico athletic department; and
WHEREAS, Adolph was inducted into the New Mexico sports hall of fame and the university of New Mexico alumni lettermen's association hall of honor and was honored with a living legend award by the university of New Mexico black alumni chapter; and
WHEREAS, Adolph is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Carolyn Plummer; his children, Kimberly, Kevin and Cheryl; and his granddaughter, Galen;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the late Adolph C. Plummer be honored as a legendary New Mexico athlete; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the family of Adolph C. Plummer.
