AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR START-UP COSTS AT THE CENTER FOR EDUCATIONAL INNOVATION, A COLLABORATION AMONG NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY; DONA ANA COMMUNITY COLLEGE; AND HATCH, GADSDEN AND LAS CRUCES SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO FOCUS ON WORKFORCE READINESS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico state university for expenditure in fiscal year 2017 to pay for start-up costs for a center for educational innovation, a collaboration among New Mexico state university; Dona Ana community college; and Hatch valley, Gadsden independent and Las Cruces public school districts, that will allow public school and public post-secondary students in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, medicine or allied health to both learn and innovate in areas such as computer coding, animation design and three-dimensional imaging, particularly as those areas benefit medical research and virtual reality simulation training platforms for physicians and other medical specialties. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2017 shall revert to the general fund.
