A MEMORIAL
REMEMBERING AND HONORING MAJOR KEITH BUTLER.
WHEREAS, Keith Butler was born on August 3, 1957 in Portales; and
WHEREAS, Keith was a graduate of Artesia high school and
lived in New Mexico until he joined the United States marine corps at age eighteen; and
WHEREAS, after being honorably discharged after four years in the marine corps, Major Butler attended eastern New Mexico university for two years; and
WHEREAS, Major Butler then enlisted in the United States army special forces as a green beret and served in that position for the remainder of his military career; and
WHEREAS, Major Butler completed the army's physician assistant program and received a bachelor's degree from the university of Nebraska and a master's degree from the university of Oklahoma; and
WHEREAS, Major Butler served in an elite unit as a medic and weapons specialist; and
WHEREAS, Major Butler served in most of the conflicts that have made recent headline history, including Panama, Honduras, Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan, and completed forty-four combined missions in Iraq and Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, Major Butler was killed in action in Afghanistan on May 10, 2014;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that with gratitude, Major Keith Butler be remembered and honored for his ultimate sacrifice and for his thirty-six years of service to his country; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the family of Major Keith Butler.
