A MEMORIAL

PROCLAIMING THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2015, TO BE "ALBUQUERQUE WEST SIDE DAY" AT THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

 

     WHEREAS, the west side of Albuquerque, Bernalillo county, New Mexico, is the fastest-growing area in the state; and

     WHEREAS, many neighborhoods and communities on the west side work tirelessly to provide needed infrastructure to help spur economic investments to grow business development and job creation; and

     WHEREAS, west side Albuquerque schools have steadily improved graduation rates and lowered dropout rates; and

     WHEREAS, community members and local elected officials have joined forces to create healthy and safe neighborhoods on Albuquerque's west side; and

     WHEREAS, the west side is the western gateway to Albuquerque's historic route 66 heritage; and

     WHEREAS, the west side has the highest percentage of Hispanics in Albuquerque, including some who have roots dating back to the early Spanish settlers and some who are newly arrived Latino immigrants; and

     WHEREAS, the west side has the most beautiful views of the city of Albuquerque and the Sandia and Manzano mountains; and

     WHEREAS, west side residents take pride in calling themselves "west siders"; and

     WHEREAS, every year, community leaders work tirelessly to bring hundreds of west side students to the state capitol; and

     WHEREAS, this year will mark the eighth observance of Albuquerque's west side day at the legislature;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Thursday, February 19, 2015, be recognized as "Albuquerque West Side Day" at the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the mayor of Albuquerque, the Bernalillo county board of county commissioners, the south valley coalition of neighborhood associations, the southwest alliance of neighbors and the west side coalition of neighborhoods.
