Your BUSINESS AND EMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE, to whom has been referred
SENATE BILL 583, as amended
has had it under consideration and reports same with recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows:
1. On page 2, line 16, strike the closing quotation mark, and between lines 17 and 18, insert the following new subsections:
"C. Notwithstanding the requirements of Subsection A of this section, after review of an initial written application for employment, a private employer may ask for written consent of the applicant to conduct a criminal background check in order to proceed with the application process. The applicant's criminal record may be taken into consideration by the private employer in making the decision whether to hire, subject to the provisions of Subsection B of this section.
D. The provisions of this section shall not apply to a private employer whose business employs fewer than thirty employees."".
and thence referred to the JUDICIARY COMMITTEE.
