AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT FOR A RESEARCH-BASED, INTERACTIVE, WEB-BASED MATHEMATICS PROGRAM TO ADDRESS THE DROP IN STUDENT MATHEMATICS PERFORMANCE BETWEEN FOURTH AND TENTH GRADES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2016 to contract for a research-based, interactive, web-based program to address the proven drop in student mathematics performance between the fourth and tenth grades and that provides game-based technology solutions, includes an adaptive software solution to adapt to student ability level, provides an opportunity for teacher development and sharing of curriculum and includes story-based components to enhance student recall. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2016 shall revert to the general fund.
