AN ACT
RELATING TO DRIVER'S LICENSES; PROVIDING FOR THE PLACEMENT OF A VETERAN DESIGNATION ON A DRIVER'S LICENSE, COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE OR IDENTIFICATION CARD ISSUED TO AN HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERAN OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. A new section of the Motor Vehicle Code is enacted to read:
"[NEW MATERIAL] VETERAN DESIGNATION ON A DRIVER'S LICENSE, COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE OR IDENTIFICATION CARD--APPLICATION--ISSUANCE.--
A. Within the forms prescribed by the department for applications and licenses of drivers of motor vehicles and drivers of commercial motor vehicles and of applicants for identification cards, a space shall be provided to show whether the applicant is a veteran as defined in the Veterans' Services Department Act. Anyone applying for a license may, if the applicant desires, indicate the applicant's veteran status on the space provided on the application, and this information, if provided by an applicant along with proof satisfactory to the division that the applicant is a veteran, shall be shown upon the license or identification card issued.
B. No additional fee shall be charged for a license or identification card that includes a veteran designation."
SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2015.
