A JOINT RESOLUTION

PROPOSING A NEW SECTION OF ARTICLE 5 OF THE CONSTITUTION OF NEW MEXICO TO REQUIRE THE CREATION OF OFFICES OF INSPECTORS GENERAL IN DESIGNATED STATE AGENCIES AND FOR INSPECTORS GENERAL TO REPORT TO THE STATE AUDITOR AND TO THE LEGISLATURE.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. It is proposed to amend Article 5 of the constitution of New Mexico by adding a new section to read:

     "The state legislature shall establish, by law, offices of inspectors general to be appointed and managed by the state auditor, in designated state agencies. The inspectors general shall be answerable to the state auditor and shall provide annual reports as required by law to the state auditor and to the legislature."

     SECTION 2. The amendment proposed by this resolution shall be submitted to the people for their approval or rejection at the next general election or at any special election prior to that date that may be called for that purpose.
