A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING LOS ALAMOS PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR RECEIVING AN ADVANCED PLACEMENT COLLEGE BOARD HONOR ROLL AWARD.

 

     WHEREAS, four hundred seventy-seven school districts across the United States and Canada are being honored for increasing access to advanced placement coursework while simultaneously maintaining, or increasing, the percentage of students earning scores of three or higher in advanced placement exams; and

     WHEREAS, reaching these goals indicates that these school districts are successfully identifying motivated, academically prepared students who are likely to benefit from rigorous advanced placement coursework; and

     WHEREAS, Los Alamos public school district was included on the fourth annual advanced placement district honor roll, which is based on the examination of three years of data, from 2011 to 2013; and

     WHEREAS, criteria for receiving the award include increasing participation and access to advanced placement courses; increasing, or maintaining, the percentage of exams taken by African American, Hispanic/Latino and American Indian and Alaskan Indian Native students; and improving performance levels when comparing the percentage of students in 2013 scoring a three or higher to that of students in 2011; and

     WHEREAS, Los Alamos public school district is the first school district in New Mexico to receive this distinction; and

     WHEREAS, Los Alamos public school district will be honored for its distinction on February 4, 2014 at a ceremony to be held at the state capitol;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Los Alamos public school district be recognized for its accomplishment for being placed on the fourth annual advanced placement district honor roll; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the superintendent of Los Alamos public school district.
