A JOINT MEMORIAL

WELCOMING PARTICIPANTS TO THE 2014 UNIVERSITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION SUMMIT; REQUESTING THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT, THE HIGHER EDUCATION DEPARTMENT, THE WORKFORCE SOLUTIONS DEPARTMENT, THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO EXPLORE THEIR INTERDEPENDENT ROLES FOR SUPPORTING ECONOMIC GROWTH THROUGH BROADENING PARTNERSHIPS.

 

     WHEREAS, educational attainment is directly related to economic well-being; and

     WHEREAS, job creation for New Mexicans is vitally important to economic success; and

     WHEREAS, a well-trained and educated work force is critical to job creation and employability; and

     WHEREAS, education provides the tools and resources for homegrown entrepreneurial development that leads to economic self-sustainability and allows New Mexicans to define their economic path; and

     WHEREAS, together, higher education and economic development organizations in New Mexico are working to create a robust and healthy economy; and

     WHEREAS, a consortium of New Mexico educational institutions and economic development organizations has engaged a national partner in the university economic development association to share and exchange best practices; and

     WHEREAS, the governor and the New Mexico legislature are actively engaged in and support education and economic development; and

     WHEREAS, a consortium of colleges, universities and economic development organizations has invited the university economic development association to host its 2014 summit in Santa Fe on September 28 to October 1, 2014;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the participants in the 2014 university economic development association summit, including colleges, universities, public and private industry and economic development organizations from around the country, be warmly welcomed to New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the economic development department, the higher education department, the workforce solutions department, the department of health and the public education department be requested to explore their interdependent roles for supporting economic growth through broadening partnerships; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the economic development department, the higher education department, the workforce solutions department, the department of health and the public education department.
