A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE NEW MEXICO INSTITUTE OF MINING AND TECHNOLOGY TO STUDY THE EFFICACY OF THE COAL AND UTILITY INDUSTRIES' REFINING OF COAL MINE METHANE AND MARKETING AND BURNING IT IN POWER PLANTS.

     WHEREAS, significant amounts of methane are lost or left unexploited in the coal mining process; and

     WHEREAS, refined methane can be used as fuel;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico institute of mining and technology be requested to study the efficacy of coal mining companies refining coal mine methane and selling it to utilities for burning in electric power plants; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the New Mexico institute of mining and technology report its findings to the radioactive and hazardous materials committee; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the president of the New Mexico institute of mining and technology.
