A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE OFFICE OF THE STATE ENGINEER TO COMPLETE REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF ENGINEERING DESIGNS FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO SANTA CRUZ DAM AND REQUESTING THE NEW MEXICO CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION TO SEEK FEDERAL FUNDING FOR THE IMPROVEMENTS.

 

     WHEREAS, results from sedimentation studies performed in 1991 and 2006 indicate that the Santa Cruz dam is filling with silt at a rate of twenty-five acre-feet per year and is currently thirty-two percent to thirty-four percent full of silt; and

     WHEREAS, the office of the state engineer continues to have on the shelf a design for an eight-and-one-half-foot rise in the dam wall;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the dam safety bureau of the office of the state engineer be requested to complete review and approval of design for improving the Santa Cruz dam to shovel-ready; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the New Mexico congressional delegation be requested to seek federal funding support for the improvements; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the state engineer and to the New Mexico congressional delegation.
