AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TO FUND AN OVERDOSE PREVENTION AND AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AND TO FUND AN EVALUATION OF THE STATE'S CURRENT OVERDOSE PREVENTION PROGRAMS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public health division of the department of health for expenditure in fiscal year 2013 to develop a campaign to raise public awareness of the availability of the overdose reversal drug naloxone through the department, the grant of limited immunity for those persons requesting medical assistance in the event of an overdose pursuant to Section 30-31-27.1 NMSA 1978 and the availability of suboxone and methodone treatment; and to evaluate the effectiveness of the state's current overdose prevention programs. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2013 shall revert to the general fund.
