A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING FEBRUARY 3, 2010 AS "DAY OF PRAYER" AT THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, throughout its national history, America's leaders, including presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, have called for a day of prayer to humbly ask God for blessings, guidance, forgiveness and protection during times of difficulty; and

     WHEREAS, President John Adams said "Statesmen, my dear sir, may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone, which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand, the only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue and if this cannot be inspired into our people in a greater measure than they have it now, they may change their rulers and the forms of government, but they will not obtain a lasting liberty"; and

     WHEREAS, the economic recession and state deficits present many challenges and have a severe impact on the quality of life of all New Mexicans; and

     WHEREAS, throughout this day of prayer, we ask for God's favor, blessing, wisdom and guidance to rest upon the state's government, businesses and residents; that God guide New Mexico's leaders to resolve the state's budget deficit and renew the vitality of New Mexico's economy; and that God aid and empower the residents and businesses in the state and in the United States; and

     WHEREAS, all New Mexicans are encouraged to take a day of prayer to ask for God's blessings on New Mexico and the United States;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 3, 2010 be recognized as "Day of Prayer" at the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the governor.
