A MEMORIAL

HONORING THE EASTERN NEW MEXICO RURAL TELEPHONE COOPERATIVE AND DECLARING JANUARY 26, 2010 "ENMR PLATEAU TELECOMMUNICATIONS DAY" AT THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, telephone service was extremely limited six decades ago, inspiring local farmers, ranchers and other citizens in 1949 to create the first comprehensive telephone cooperative in the region, the eastern New Mexico rural telephone cooperative; and

     WHEREAS, when this cooperative was created, access to dependable telephone communications became a reality in this geographically large, sparsely populated area of the state; and

     WHEREAS, the mission of the cooperative is to provide high quality, reasonably priced, progressive telecommunication services that enhance the quality of life and economic development of the service area; and

     WHEREAS, the eastern New Mexico rural telephone cooperative, now known as ENMR plateau telecommunications, strives to achieve this mission through the use of appropriate technologies, and through empowering and equipping cooperative employees to satisfy customers and to be the premier full-service telecommunications provider in the region; and

     WHEREAS, the cooperative is committed to building relationships through integrity, teamwork, innovation, communication, customer service, excellence and service to the cooperative's communities; and

     WHEREAS, ENMR plateau telecommunications now has approximately twelve thousand landline and seventy-five thousand wireless accounts; and

             WHEREAS, through a willingness to embrace change, the cooperative's employees, board of directors and members were successful in creating a one-stop telecommunications shop; and

     WHEREAS, through the pursuit of many progressive economic development projects and initiatives and through partnerships with entities such as the New Mexico economic development department, the New Mexico partnership, small business development centers, the New Mexico legislature, the governor and others, ENMR plateau telecommunications has been responsible for significant economic development in the state;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the eastern New Mexico rural telephone cooperative be honored and that January 26, 2010 be declared "ENMR Plateau Telecommunications Day" at the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the chief executive officer and the members of the board of ENMR plateau telecommunications.
