AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE BERNALILLO COUNTY SHERIFF'S ANTI-BULLYING AND CHARACTER-DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS USING LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE HOLOCAUST AND OTHER EXAMPLES OF GENOCIDE.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the local government division of the department of finance and administration for the Bernalillo county sheriff's office for expenditure in fiscal year 2010 to contract for anti-bullying and character-development programs for public school teachers using lessons learned from the holocaust and other examples of genocide that inspire positive behavior by addressing and developing self-esteem and leadership skills for students who may be subjected to peer group gang influence. The programs shall align with the New Mexico educational standards and benchmarks and mandated goals. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2010 shall revert to the general fund.
