AN ACT
RELATING TO HIGHER EDUCATION; PROVIDING RESIDENT TUITION ELIGIBILITY FOR SOME HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS, THEIR SPOUSES AND THEIR DEPENDENT CHILDREN AT NEW MEXICO INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. A new section of Chapter 21, Article 1 NMSA 1978 is enacted to read:
"[NEW MATERIAL] RESIDENT TUITION FOR HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES.--An honorably discharged veteran of the United States armed forces and the honorably discharged veteran's spouse and dependent children shall be deemed in-state residents for purposes of determining tuition and fees at all state institutions of higher learning if the honorably discharged veteran was a member of the armed forces on or after August 1, 2009."
