    Your COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE, to whom has been referred

SENATE BILL 20

has had it under consideration and reports same with recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows:

    1. On page 1, line 12, after "TRANSPORTATION", insert "AND FOR INCREASED SCHOOL PERSONNEL TRAVEL COSTS".

    2. On page 1, line 15, before "Three", insert a new subsection designation "A.".

    3. On page 1, lines 15 and 16, strike "Three million two hundred thousand dollars ($3,200,000)" and insert in lieu thereof "Five million dollars ($5,000,000)".

    4. On page 1, line 19, after "for", strike "higher school bus fuel costs" and insert in lieu thereof "the increased cost of fuel".

    5. On page 1, line 20, after "be", insert "determined by the department".

    6. On page 1, line 21, after the period, insert:

"The department shall evaluate the distribution of supplemental funding for fuel costs prior to the next regular legislative session and adjust the distribution to school districts and contracted operations as necessary. The department shall take credit at the end of fiscal year 2009 for any overpayment of fuel costs to school districts and contracted operations.".

    7. On page 1, line 21, after the period, insert:

         "B. One million four hundred thousand dollars ($1,400,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2009 to provide supplemental funding to school districts to reimburse school personnel for increased travel expenses caused by higher fuel costs. The department shall establish a formula for distribution and shall evaluate the distribution of supplemental funding prior to the next regular legislative session and adjust the distribution to school districts as necessary.".

    8. On page 1, line 21, before "Any", insert the subsection designation "C.".
