A JOINT MEMORIAL
REQUESTING THE STATE LAND OFFICE TO FINALIZE EXCHANGE OF LANDS WITH THE RANCHO VIEJO PARTNERSHIP.
WHEREAS, a collaborative effort has been conducted between Santa Fe county, the state parks division of the energy, minerals and natural resources department, the state land office, the federal bureau of land management and private landowners to establish thirty thousand acres of open space; and
WHEREAS, this open space would encompass land between Santa Fe community college, the village of Galisteo and the village of Cerrillos; and
WHEREAS, this joint effort will allow Santa Fe county to use open space funds to lease remaining state land, thus ensuring the revenue stream for the state land office; and
WHEREAS, such a parcel of secured open space is rare near state capitals; and
WHEREAS, this will help preserve the Galisteo basin;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state land office be requested to finalize an agreement for exchange of lands with the Rancho Viejo partnership to conserve the thirty thousand acres between Santa Fe community college, the village of Galisteo and the village of Cerrillos; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the commissioner of public lands.
