A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE NEW MEXICO LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL TO DIRECT THE

APPROPRIATE COMMITTEE TO STUDY THE ISSUE OF MOTOR VEHICLE

SALVAGE SALES.

WHEREAS, motor vehicles that have been in accidents and

declared a total loss by insurance companies are frequently

repaired and resold; and

WHEREAS, the consumer is not always informed of the

vehicle's history and repairs are not always completed

adequately; and

WHEREAS, current law allows for salvage of such vehicles

and their resale; and

WHEREAS, current law does not restrict resale of salvage

vehicles;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF

REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico

legislative council be requested to direct the appropriate

committee to study the issue of resale of salvage vehicles and

report recommendations to the legislature to protect consumers'

interests by January 1, 2008; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be

transmitted to the members of the New Mexico legislative

council.
