A JOINT MEMORIAL
URGING THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES TO SUPPORT THE NECESSARY FUNDING FOR BASIC LIFE-SAVING ARMOR AND EQUIPMENT THAT PROTECTS THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY SERVING IN IRAQ.
WHEREAS, the brave men and women of the United States military are fighting valiantly to secure a troubled country that is in the midst of violent ethnic and religious strife; and
WHEREAS, counterinsurgency missions, combat in Iraq's grinding desert sands and the enemy's use of roadside bombs have taken a heavy toll on the vehicles, armor kits and other equipment used by the United States military in Iraq; and
WHEREAS, increasing troop levels in Iraq create logistical hurdles and readiness challenges for United States ground forces in Iraq; and
WHEREAS, the United States military should be given every resource to improve its ability to respond quickly to threats against the United States and lower the risk of American casualties; and
WHEREAS, it is the obligation of the United States government to ensure that America's brave men and women who serve in harm's way be given the best equipment to fight and defend themselves;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the congress of the United States be urged to support the necessary funding for basic life-saving armor and equipment that protects the brave men and women of the United States military serving in Iraq; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the New Mexico congressional delegation be urged to vigorously support funding for vehicles, armor kits and other equipment needed to supply members of the United States military who are risking their lives in Iraq; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the president of the United States senate, the speaker of the United States house of representatives and each member of the New Mexico congressional delegation.
