A JOINT MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF THE "POWER IS IN YOUR HANDS" CAMPAIGN FOR WINTER ENERGY EFFICIENCY.

     WHEREAS, the "power is in your hands" campaign has issued the "six degrees of energy efficiency challenge" that requests members of the public to pledge to make small changes that result in huge differences collectively in energy consumption; and

     WHEREAS, energy-efficient homes can save money for those who live in them and can contribute to a collective reduction in use of energy; and

     WHEREAS, the alliance to save energy, a team of more than thirty partners, is staging an energy efficiency home makeover at the home of a low-income family on February 22, 2007; and     WHEREAS, the willingness of private partners working with governments to lower individual and collective energy use and energy costs is to be commended;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the alliance to save energy be recognized for its good work; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all New Mexicans be encouraged to examine ways they may save costs and energy through home improvement; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor, the secretary of environment, the director of the mortgage finance authority and the secretary of human services.
