AN ACT

MAKING APPROPRIATIONS FOR THE MATHEMATICS, ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATIONS.--

          A. The following amounts are appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico institute of mining and technology for expenditure in fiscal year 2008 for the following purposes:

                (1) twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) to provide, in conjunction with the center for environmental monitoring at the Carlsbad branch of New Mexico state university, the Roswell branch of eastern New Mexico university and the New Mexico military institute, a one-week in-depth summer science of energy program for students and schools in the southeast region of the state;

                (2) forty thousand dollars ($40,000) for a science and engineering summer course to prepare sophomores and juniors to succeed in related college classes;

                (3) twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) to provide staff professional development in math, engineering, science and technically related fields through classes, workshops and professional conferences; and

                (4) one hundred twenty-six thousand dollars ($126,000) to expand the mathematics, engineering and science achievement program into seven new public schools.

          B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2008 shall revert to the general fund.
