AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A HEALTH CAREERS PATHWAY TO HELP BRING STUDENTS INTO THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO SCHOOL OF MEDICINE.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One million eight hundred fifty-five thousand dollars ($1,855,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure by the New Mexico health sciences center in fiscal years 2008 and 2009 to provide funding to encourage students underrepresented in the health sciences to enter and graduate from health or allied health professions programs by providing stipends in the health sciences beginning in middle school and ending at the post-graduate level. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall revert to the general fund.
