AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A SENIOR SCHOLAR IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM AT THE CHARLIE MORRISSEY RESEARCH HALL OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred twenty-five thousand dollars ($125,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in fiscal year 2008 and subsequent fiscal years for a senior scholar in residence at the Charlie Morrissey research hall for the African American studies program at the university of New Mexico. The program will allow the scholar to remain in residence for two years with an option to extend the residency for one additional year. The scholar shall participate in a public lecture series at the African American performing arts center and exhibit hall, conduct research and teach courses in Africana studies. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of a fiscal year shall not revert to the general fund.
