AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE VISITING SCHOLARS PROGRAM AT THE CHARLIE MORRISEY RESEARCH HALL FOR THE AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in fiscal year 2008 and subsequent fiscal years for the Charlie Morrisey research hall for the African American studies program to fund the visiting scholars program. Visiting scholars will remain in residence for two years, with an option to extend their residency for one additional year. During their tenure, the scholars will participate in a lecture series at the African American performing arts center and exhibit hall, conduct research and teach courses in Africana studies. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of a fiscal year shall not revert to the general fund.
