AN ACT

RELATING TO ELECTIONS; REQUIRING REPORTING OF THE NUMBER AND TYPE OF BALLOTS CAST WITHIN FORTY-EIGHT HOURS OF AN ELECTION.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. A new section of the Election Code is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] POST-ELECTION DUTIES--REPORTING NUMBER OF BALLOTS CAST.--Upon the closing of the polls, the county clerk shall determine the number of each type of ballot cast in the election in that county and within twenty-four hours transmit the information to the secretary of state. Within forty-eight hours of the closing of the polls, the secretary of state shall report the number of each type of ballot cast statewide."
