A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE ALBUQUERQUE JUNIOR LEAGUE AND ITS CONTRIBUTIONS TO COMMUNITY IMPACT PROGRAMS THROUGH PUBLICATION OF ITS COOKBOOK, SIMPLY SIMPATICO.

     WHEREAS, the Albuquerque junior league published its nationally renowned cookbook, Simply Simpatico, twenty-five years ago; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico recipes in the cookbook have reached the far corners of the world, increasing international recognition and awareness of New Mexico's delicious traditional regional cuisine; and

     WHEREAS, the Simply Simpatico cookbook includes only original recipes from New Mexico residents, and many of the recipes included date back generations; and

     WHEREAS, sales of the cookbook have earned the Albuquerque junior league over three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) over the last quarter century; and

     WHEREAS, the money raised by the Simply Simpatico cookbook has been contributed to community impact projects, including a children's museum, adolescent pregnancy prevention, an infant care program and a therapeutic preschool, among other projects; and

     WHEREAS, the Albuquerque junior league's current community impact project is a center dedicated to helping women in recovery from life on the streets;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the Albuquerque junior league be congratulated for its success in fundraising as well as in spreading appreciation of New Mexico cuisine; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Albuquerque junior league be thanked for its many contributions to the civic life of New Mexico and its generous support of worthy community impact projects; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the president of the Albuquerque junior league.
