A MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN AND DESIGNATING FEBRUARY 6 AS "RONALD REAGAN DAY" AT THE LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, President Ronald Reagan, a man of humble background, worked throughout his life serving the public and advancing freedom as a union leader, corporate spokesman, governor of the state of California and president of the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction for two terms as the fortieth president of the United States of America, winning his second term by earning the confidence of three-fifths of the electorate and carrying forty-nine of the fifty states in the general election, a record unsurpassed in the history of American presidential elections; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan worked during his presidency in a bipartisan manner to enact a bold agenda of restoring accountability and common sense to government, which led to an unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for millions of Americans; and
WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to an active social policy agenda for the nation's children helped lower crime and drug use in neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to the nation's armed forces contributed to the restoration of pride in America and prepared troops for the challenges of the next century, and his vision of peace through strength led to the end of the cold war, guaranteeing basic human rights for millions of people; and
WHEREAS, February 6, 2006 will be the ninety-fifth anniversary of Ronald Reagan's birth and the second since his passing;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 6, 2006 be designated as "Ronald Reagan Day" at the legislature.
