A JOINT MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING BERNALILLO COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES DAVID BROWN AND ROBBY RAY FOR THEIR PRESENCE OF MIND IN SAVING THE LIFE OF PETE CANDELARIA.
WHEREAS, Deputy David Brown of the Bernalillo county sheriff's office spotted Pete Candelaria's truck speeding in the median and pulled the driver over; and
WHEREAS, the driver, Mr. Candelaria's wife, Terry, immediately reported that her passenger had suffered a heart attack; and
WHEREAS, Pete Candelaria did not have a pulse, was not breathing and showed no signs of life; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Brown immediately pulled out his emergency defibrillator equipment and with the assistance of deputy Robby Ray brought Mr. Candelaria back to life; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Brown reported that he believed their life-saving act was "no different than anything else we do as law enforcement officers"; and
WHEREAS, the family of Pete Candelaria sees Deputies Brown and Ray as quite special, even as guardian angels;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Deputies David Brown and Robby Ray be commended for their presence of mind in saving the life of Pete Candelaria; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that they and their fellow Bernalillo county sheriff's deputies be recognized for the life-and-death significance of the work they do on a daily basis; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislature express its gratitude on behalf of the people of New Mexico for the quiet valor of Deputies Brown and Ray and their fellow sheriff's deputies; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to Deputies David Brown and Robby Ray and their fellow officers and the Bernalillo county sheriff.
