AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR DROPOUT PREVENTION AND GENERAL EQUIVALENCY PROGRAMS IN VALENCIA COUNTY.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

          A. Two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2007 to support the following programs in Valencia county:

                (1) one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) for a general equivalency program stressing individualized academic preparation, preassessment, academic instruction, employability skills and job placement for young adults who have dropped out of high school; and

                (2) one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) for an existing dropout prevention program in the Los Lunas public schools.

          B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert to the general fund.
