FOR THE LEGISLATIVE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE
A JOINT MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE NEW MEXICO PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION FOR NINETY YEARS OF SERVICE TO STUDENTS IN NEW MEXICO SCHOOLS.
WHEREAS, adult involvement in the education and life experience of children is of critical importance to the development of a healthy citizenry in New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, it is the mission of the New Mexico parent teacher association to initiate, support, enrich and advocate for such involvement throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, the New Mexico parent teacher association was formally organized on May 17, 1915 to pursue the goal of raising children to make better citizens; and
WHEREAS, for ninety years, the New Mexico parent teacher association has provided training, an organizational structure and advocacy for New Mexico parents, teachers and other adults to have a voice on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children; and
WHEREAS, for ninety years, the New Mexico parent teacher association has assisted parents to develop the skills they need to protect and raise their children; and
WHEREAS, for ninety years, local chapters of the New Mexico parent teacher association have been an effective vehicle for parents and communities to participate in and support the educational mission of public schools in New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, during its ninety years of operation, the New Mexico parent teacher association has undertaken a wide range of successful initiatives, from providing hot lunches, immunizations and health screenings for school children to advocating for important program and curriculum improvements;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that on the ninetieth anniversary of the founding of the New Mexico parent teacher association, the organization be recognized and commended for the invaluable and outstanding contribution it has made to the children, the educational system and all the residents of the state; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the efforts of the New Mexico parent teacher association be supported as it continues to promote effective adult and community involvement in public education in the state; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the New Mexico parent teacher association.
