AN ACT

RELATING TO TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICES; PROVIDING THAT PROVIDERS CAN ONLY CHARGE END-USER LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES FOR CONNECTION TO CRIME INFORMATION CENTERS OR SYSTEMS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. A new section of the Cramming and Slamming Act is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] CHARGES FOR CONNECTION TO CRIME INFORMATION SYSTEMS.--A provider providing telecommunications services to a law enforcement agency of this state, other than those within the department of public safety or to another entity authorized by the department of public safety, involving the connection of that law enforcement agency or other entity to the national crime information center or other similar statewide, regional or national crime or criminal information system, shall charge only that law enforcement agency or other entity for the connection and shall not charge the department of public safety or the communications division of the general services department, unless the department of public safety or the general services department requests to be charged for the connection to the other law enforcement agency or other entity."
