A JOINT MEMORIAL
REQUESTING THE SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION TO DESIGNATE THE PORTION OF INTERSTATE 25 FROM THE CITY OF LAS CRUCES TO THE COLORADO-NEW MEXICO STATE LINE AS THE "HEROIC AMERICANS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY".
WHEREAS, many soldiers, firefighters and law enforcement officers from New Mexico and other states have been killed or permanently disabled defending Americans' freedoms and upholding the United States constitution beyond the call of duty; and
WHEREAS, if New Mexico honors heroic Americans with a memorial highway, other states may follow, thereby promoting more responsible driving on America's highways and engendering greater respect among motorists;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the secretary of transportation be requested to designate interstate 25 from the city of Las Cruces to the Colorado-New Mexico state line as "Heroic Americans Memorial Highway"; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor, the secretary of transportation and the state transportation commission.
