A JOINT MEMORIAL
REQUESTING THE CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES DEPARTMENT TO CONSIDER RECOMMENDING THE TOUGHLOVE PROGRAM AS A RESOURCE FOR PARENTS OF TROUBLED CHILDREN.
WHEREAS, challenges facing parents are more daunting than ever, as children are confronted with difficult choices that may lead to bad decisions related to substance abuse, illegal activity or unwise sexual relationships; and
WHEREAS, children's bad decisions often lead to stress and strain in their relationships with their parents, leaving parents struggling for assistance on how to properly help and educate their children about what is and what is not acceptable behavior; and
WHEREAS, toughlove international is a not-for-profit organization that provides education and ongoing support to families, empowering parents and young people to accept responsibility for their actions; and
WHEREAS, the toughlove program can offer support and help to parents struggling in their relationships with their children;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the children, youth and families department be requested to recommend the toughlove program as a resource to community agencies and to parents who are seeking assistance in dealing with their troubled children; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of children, youth and families.
