A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE STATE TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION TO DEDICATE UNITED STATES HIGHWAY 64-87 FROM RATON TO CLAYTON AS THE "JOHN MORROW MEMORIAL HIGHWAY".

     WHEREAS, John Morrow selflessly served the people of northeastern New Mexico for twenty-two years as a state senator, carrying on the tradition of public service set by his father, who also served as a state senator, and his grandfather, who served as a territorial legislator in New Mexico and in the United States house of representatives; and

     WHEREAS, John Morrow was a Capulin rancher who personified the grit, honor and integrity of the dwindling number of New Mexicans who make their living off the land that they love; and

     WHEREAS, while John Morrow, who died on November 21, 2002, and the Morrow name will long be remembered by generations of New Mexicans, it is fitting that there be a more permanent reminder of John Morrow's contributions to the state and to northeastern New Mexico;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state transportation commission be requested to dedicate United States highway 64-87 from Raton to Clayton as the "John Morrow Memorial Highway" and that the commission be requested to erect suitable markers noting the designation; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be delivered to the state transportation commission.
