AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO STUDY THE EFFECTS OF SUSTO SYNDROME.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

          A. One hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico highlands university for expenditure in fiscal year 2005 to conduct a statewide study to:

                (1) evaluate the social impact of the disease identified as susto syndrome on the population of the state, with emphasis on the indigenous population;

                (2) determine the effectiveness of both conventional and alternative treatment modalities;

                (3) determine ways to address the illness through intervention, treatment and prevention; and

                (4) identify methods to increase awareness of the negative social, mental and medical impacts of the disease.           B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2005 shall revert to the general fund.
