RECOGNIZING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF JOSEPH WILLIAM "BILL" FEATHER TO NEW MEXICO.
WHEREAS, Joseph William "Bill" Feather was a native of Artesia, New Mexico, and a graduate of Artesia high school and New Mexico state university; and
WHEREAS, Bill Feather's distinguished career in journalism began at the Las Cruces Citizen and included a stint as the editor of the Santa Fe New Mexican, but was marked by his longtime service as the capitol correspondent for the Associated Press; and
WHEREAS, Bill Feather reported on New Mexico state government and politics for more than three decades, earning a reputation every day for accuracy, thoroughness and fairness, claiming the title of dean of the capitol press corps and compiling a knowledge of state government that exceeded that of many who served in it and that was something he was always willing to share with colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Bill Feather served as a critical link between those in government and the people of New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, following his retirement in 1991, Bill Feather remained active as a volunteer in literacy and library programs, animal protection efforts and horticultural activities; and
WHEREAS, Bill Feather is missed by all and survived by his wife, Pat; sons, Joseph, Robert and Frank; and four granddaughters;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Joseph William "Bill" Feather be recognized for his contributions to the people of New Mexico.
