EXPRESSING THE CONDOLENCE OF THE SENATE UPON THE PASSING OF FRANK R. GOMEZ.
WHEREAS, Frank R. Gomez, a lifelong resident of Santa Fe, died on April 14, 2002; and
WHEREAS, Frank started the Frank Gomez agency in 1949 selling insurance and real estate; and
WHEREAS, he served as president of the Santa Fe city council, president of the Santa Fe chamber of commerce, director of Capital bank, chairman of the college of Santa Fe board of trustees, chairman of the Santa Fe housing authority, chairman of Santa Fe's first urban renewal agency and state Democratic party treasurer; and
WHEREAS, Frank was appointed to the New Mexico real estate commission in 1963; and
WHEREAS, he was named "Citizen of the Year" by the Santa Fe association of realtors; and
WHEREAS, Frank was named "Realtor of the Year" in 1971; and
WHEREAS, he portrayed Don Diego DeVargas for the Santa Fe fiesta and later served on the fiesta council; and
WHEREAS, he formed an organization called Los Padrinos, which took college students into homes over the holidays; and
WHEREAS, Frank is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Alice L. Gomez; his four children, Susan Varela, Steve Gomez, Francie Miles and Carla Gomez; his ten grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren; and his aunt, Concha Ortiz y Pino de Klevin;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that condolences be extended to the family and friends of Frank R. Gomez, a loving and devoted New Mexican.
