SENATE FLOOR AMENDMENT number ___1___ to SENATE JOINT MEMORIAL 66

1. On page 1, strike lines 14 through 20 in their entirety and insert in lieu thereof:
"WHEREAS, the safety and security of New Mexico's educators, other school employees and students are of paramount importance; and
WHEREAS, many school classrooms are physically separated from main administration and classroom buildings and many classrooms are not equipped with emergency notification and communication systems or devices, leaving educators, other school employees and students without an effective or efficient way to summon help in the case of an emergency; and
WHEREAS, most educators and other school employees remain at school facilities after school hours to prepare for the next day's activities; and".
2. On page 2, strike lines 2 through 5 in their entirety and insert in lieu thereof:
"WHEREAS, educators, other school employees and students are entitled to the safest working environment possible, and there may be many actions that could be taken, such as improved background checks, installation of emergency notification systems and modifications to campus design, to help school districts provide the safest working environment possible to educators, other school employees and students;".
3. On page 2, line 9, after "of" insert "all".
4. On page 2, line 9, after "employees" insert "and students".
5. On page 2, line 10, after "increased" insert ", including increased security measures, improved background checks, increased availability of emergency notification devices and systems and consolidated campuses,".
