REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TO CONDUCT A FEASIBILITY STUDY TO CONVERT THE LOS AMIGOS NURSING HOME TO A VETERANS' HEALTH CARE AND NURSING FACILITY.
WHEREAS, the Los Amigos nursing home in the city of Santa Rosa in Guadalupe county has been and is currently under considerable financial distress; and
WHEREAS, the Los Amigos nursing home serves some of the needs of the aging and medically fragile persons in the community; and
WHEREAS, the Los Amigos nursing home is one of the safety- net providers in Guadalupe county; and
WHEREAS, there is no other nursing facility for veterans in that part of the state; and
WHEREAS, the financing of the Los Amigos nursing home could be addressed in a different manner;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the department of health, in conjunction with other appropriate agencies, be requested to conduct a feasibility study on the acquisition and operation of the Los Amigos nursing home as a veterans' health care and nursing facility through funding from the federal veterans' administration and other public or private sources; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the department of health be requested to present its findings to the legislative health and human services committee and the legislative finance committee by October 31, 2003; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the department of health, the legislative health and human services committee and the legislative finance committee.
