Synopsis
of SEC Amendment
Senate Education amended House Joint Memorial
72. The amendments are technical in nature and do not change the original
intent of the legislation. On page 1, line 11, the amendment re-states
the topic of the study, “To Study
the Effectiveness of Charter Schools.”
Synopsis
of Bill
House Joint Memorial 72 requests that the Legislative Education Study Committee (LESC) Work Group on Charter Schools study the fiscal and programmatic impact of the establishment of charter schools on the state.
Significant
Issues
The memorial also requests that the work group study the number and enrollment size of charter schools that should be established in individual school districts. The memorial requests that the work group report its findings and recommendations to the LESC by November 2003.
House Joint Memorial
72 does not contain an appropriation.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
According to SDE, the
department staff serve as liaison to the LESC Work Group on Charter Schools.
