MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR SALARY INCREASES FOR JUSTICES, JUDGES, MAGISTRATES, SPECIAL COMMISSIONERS AND HEARING OFFICERS.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five million five hundred eighty-five thousand three hundred thirty dollars ($5,585,330) is appropriated from the general fund to the administrative office of the courts for expenditure in fiscal year 2004 to provide the justices of the supreme court a salary increase to one hundred twenty-nine thousand five hundred ninety-five dollars ($129,595) and to provide the chief justice of the supreme court; the chief judge of the court of appeals; judges of the court of appeals, district courts, metropolitan court and magistrate courts; and child support hearing officers and special commissioners a salary increase pursuant to Section 34-1-9 NMSA 1978. The salary increase shall be effective the first full pay period after July 1, 2003. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2004 shall revert to the general fund.
