REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS TO NEW MEXICO ROUTE 264.
WHEREAS, New Mexico route 264 has many potholes that can cause accidents and damage to vehicles; and
WHEREAS, numerous New Mexico residents must travel on route 264 to reach Window Rock, Arizona; and
WHEREAS, school buses must travel from Gallup on route 264; and
WHEREAS, senior citizens and participants of the head start program must travel on route 264; and
WHEREAS, on the weekends, there is a high volume of traffic on route 264 from Arizona residents coming to shop in Gallup; and
WHEREAS, in approximately 1994, route 264 was greatly improved by being converted to four lanes, but it now needs to be resurfaced immediately;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state highway commission be requested to designate making improvements to New Mexico route 264 a top priority; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the chairman of the state highway commission.
