REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS TO STATE HIGHWAY 554 IN RIO ARRIBA COUNTY.
WHEREAS, state highway 554 in Rio Arriba county has been the scene of several accidents, and certain segments of the highway are notorious for repeated accidents; and
WHEREAS, fatalities are not unusual, due to the steep shoulders, narrow pavement and sharp curves with sheer dropoffs in several sections of the road;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state highway and transportation department be requested to prioritize state highway 554 in Rio Arriba county for improvements to include installation of guardrails, shoulder work and resurfacing where appropriate; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of highway and transportation and to the state highway commission.
