REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT TO CONSTRUCT A NOISE BARRIER ALONG THE SOUTH SIDE OF INTERSTATE 40 BETWEEN LOUISIANA BOULEVARD AND PENNSYLVANIA STREET IN ALBUQUERQUE.
WHEREAS, there is no noise barrier along the south side of interstate 40 between Louisiana boulevard and Pennsylvania street in Albuquerque, and it is the only stretch of interstate 40 in the area that does not have a noise barrier; and
WHEREAS, the residents of Albuquerque who live in that area cannot fully enjoy their homes, backyards and neighborhoods because of the extreme noise caused by highway traffic; and
WHEREAS, the state highway and transportation department could, relatively inexpensively and easily, rectify the problem and restore the ability of residents to fully enjoy their neighborhood by constructing a noise barrier;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state highway and transportation department be requested to construct a noise barrier along the south side of interstate 40 between Louisiana boulevard and Pennsylvania street in Albuquerque; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the state highway commission.
