MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A STATEWIDE PUBLIC SERVICE LEARNING PROGRAM.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Three hundred fifty thousand dollars ($350,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2003 for a public service learning program in public schools that integrates public service learning into academic curricula and other educational initiatives so that students, including students with disabilities, are provided public service learning opportunities. The state department of public education shall collaborate with the commission on higher education to ensure involvement of post-secondary educational institutions. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2003 shall revert to the general fund.
