AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION IN SUPPORT OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTERS AND PROGRAMS STATEWIDE; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two million dollars ($2,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the children, youth and families department for expenditure in fiscal years 2002 and 2003 for the purpose of contracting with domestic violence shelters and programs statewide to provide services to victims of domestic violence and their families. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2003 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
